Due to the restrictions of MS-DOS filenames some characters cannot be used. These are:

\ Backslash

: Colon

, Comma

"" Double quotation mark

. Full stop

< Left angle bracket [ Left bracket >) Right angle bracket

] Right bracket

; Semicolon

/ Slash

+ The plus sign

= The equal sign

| Vertical line

Due to the age of the version of CrossDos bundled with Workbench 3, it does not support Windows 95 long filenames, and so still uses the 8.3 restrictions of MS-DOS The .info file becomes .INF rendering it useless until it is renamed. There are a number of utilities on the Mac and Amiga that preserve the long filenames even on a 8.3 PC disk. This includes later versions of CrossDos, which are available from various suppliers. Check your local PD library or Aminet for the latest version.
