FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Branding Campaign Shows Gateway Adapting to Home, Business Needs

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. - April 23, 1998 - Gateway (NYSE: GTW) today unveiled a new branding campaign that positions the company as the best choice for delivering the benefits of computing to all PC customers by fulfilling each client's specific computing needs. Effective today, the company has changed its name to Gateway, officially dropping the "2000," and introduced a new logo for worldwide use.

"Gateway is evolving just as our clients' needs are evolving," said Ted Waitt, Gateway Chairman and CEO. "Our close relationship with our clients has allowed us to quickly recognize shifts in how they use PCs. More than ever before, consumers and business users are looking for solutions that are tailored to their specific requirements - technology that adapts to them, rather than forces them to adapt. This has always been our approach and the key to our success. Our new branding campaign reflects this market strategy and illustrates the unique partnerships we've forged with our clients."

According to Jeff Weitzen, Gateway president and COO, the new logo and advertising campaign also demonstrate an evolving Gateway. "Gateway is serious and strategic about meeting the computing needs of the home and businesses while continuing to be friendly, trustworthy and down-to-earth."

The new campaign marks an evolution in Gateway's long-standing use of cows in its branding. The cow spots, the best-known symbol of Gateway's success and its Midwestern roots, will remain closely tied to the company's brand. The new logo combines a hand-drawn representation of Gateway's cow-spotted box with the Gateway name in a new green font. Green was chosen as representative of growth, momentum, and vitality.

Created by McCann-Erickson Worldwide, the advertising campaign features Gateway client care specialists assisting people searching for a customized computer, with the tagline "Let's talk about your Gateway." The first television ads will premier tonight during prime time. Print ads will follow in business and computer publications in the coming months.
